About this award
The Federal Highway Administration awarded the California Department of Transportation $950,000 on January 15, 2026, under the Carbon Reduction Program (CFDA 20.265) to resynchronize 14 traffic signal corridors totaling 238 signals across Fresno, California through the TRANSYNC project.
The award funds implementation of state-of-the-art traffic signal synchronization technology on corridors constructed and synchronized over ten years ago. The 14 corridors span KC/Cesar Chavez (2 miles), Chestnut (3 miles), Shaw (8 miles), Willow (6.5 miles), Palm (2 miles), Fresno (5.5 miles), Shields (5.3 miles), West (5.3 miles), Bullard (6.5 miles), Ashlan (9.2 miles), Nees (4.2 miles), First (8 miles), McKinley (7.4 miles), and Tulare (6.1 miles), with defined endpoints along major cross-streets and state routes. The TRANSYNC project will replace aging time-of-day synchronization with modern resynchronization across the network.
The award obligates $950,000 with a period of performance extending through June 30, 2031. Work is performed in California. The Carbon Reduction Program funds projects designed to reduce transportation emissions from on-road highway sources, and traffic signal optimization reduces vehicle idling and emissions through improved signal timing.
Description
- Project description
- 14 its corridors: KC/cesar chavez (2 miles, chestnut to clovis), chestnut (3 miles, KC-shields), shaw (8 miles, SR99-SR168), willow (6.5 miles, ashlan-international), palm (2 miles, herndon-nees to blackstone), fresno (5.5 miles, herndon-olive), shields (5.3 miles, west- chestnut), west (5.3 miles, herndon-mckinley), bullard (6.5 miles, marks-willow), ashlan (9.2 miles, BS-peach), nees (4.2 miles, palm- willow), first (8 miles, nees-ventura), mckinley (7.4 miles, SR99-clovis), tulare (6.1 miles, C-clovis). Transync traffic signal synchronization project (transync project) will implement a state-of-the-art technology to resynchronize corridors which were constructed and synchronized over 10 years ago with time-of-daysynchronization. The its project map highlights the proposed transync project corridors (GREEN), and its project corridors quantifies the proposed transync project 14 corridors, limits, and 238 traffic signals that will be resynchronized.
