About this award
The Federal Highway Administration awarded the Colorado Department of Transportation $8.618 million on November 7, 2025, under the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ, CFDA 20.268) to construct a bikeway on South Havana Street in Colorado.
The project funds construction of six-foot-wide bike lanes and a new protected intersection on South Havana Street south of Interstate 25 and Ridgegate Parkway. Work is performed in Colorado with a completion date of April 30, 2028.
The City of Lone Tree received a sub-award dated July 15, 2026, to deliver the South Havana Street bikeway construction work.
CMAQ funding supports projects and programs in nonattainment and maintenance areas that reduce transportation-related emissions and improve air quality for ozone, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter. Each state's apportionment is calculated by a federally specified ratio; states with fine particulate matter nonattainment or maintenance areas must dedicate at least 25 percent of their CMAQ apportionment to projects targeting PM2.5 reductions in those areas, with priority for benefits to disadvantaged communities or low-income populations where practicable. Obligated funds remain available for obligation for three years following the end of the fiscal year for which they are authorized.
