About this award
The Federal Highway Administration awarded the New York State Department of Transportation $7.924 million on August 31, 2026, under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program (CFDA 20.277) to acquire and install direct-current electric vehicle fast charging stations across upstate western New York.
The project targets up to 16 charging locations statewide along New York's designated alternative fuel corridors, including Interstates 81, 84, 86, 88, 90, and 95, auxiliary interstate highways (I-190, 278, 287, 390, 490, 678, and 684), and New York State Routes 13, 17, 25, and 27. Final locations will be determined through a competitive award process. The award requires a 20 percent match from NYSERDA and subordinate sub-grantees.
Performance extends across New York from the award date through August 31, 2035. The NEVI Formula Program funds states to strategically deploy EV charging infrastructure and establish an interconnected network to facilitate data collection, access, and reliability as part of the broader federal effort to build a convenient, affordable, reliable, and equitable EV charging network along the nation's highways and within communities.
