About this award

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) awarded $1.725 million to the New York Department of Transportation on June 2, 2025, under the Highway Planning and Construction program (CFDA 20.205) to execute roadway resurfacing and safety improvement work on Route 9W in Ulster County, New York. The project will resurface asphalt segments of Route 9W extending from Canal Street to Route 32, spanning the towns of Ulster and Esopus and the City of Kingston. The work specifically addresses a location identified through the New York State Department of Transportation's Skid Accident Reduction Program (SKARP) that demonstrated reduced skid resistance in wet weather conditions. Additionally, the project encompasses resurfacing of eastbound and westbound ramps on Delaware Avenue and northbound and southbound Route 9W at Route 32.

This award represents a formula grant allocation supporting highway safety enhancement and pavement preservation activities authorized under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The project has been approved by the Regional Safety Evaluation Engineer and signed off by the Regional Traffic Engineer, meeting the environmental, design, and safety requirements mandated under the Highway Planning and Construction program.
