About this award

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) awarded the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) a formula grant of $211,000 under the Recreational Trails Program (CFDA 20.219) on September 9, 2025, for the Lincoln Theater Trail and Trailhead project. This award will fund the development of a 2,700-foot pedestrian and cycling trail running along Myrtle Street in the city's historic Garden District, connecting Expressway Park to the historic Lincoln Theater and Park Boulevard. The project includes dedicated bike lanes along Park Boulevard that extend connectivity to City Park. The trail infrastructure will incorporate landscaping enhancements, street lighting, path delineation amenities including benches and bike racks, and trees to support non-motorized recreational trail use.

The project is scheduled for completion by December 31, 2027, and represents an investment in multimodal transportation infrastructure that aligns with the Recreational Trails Program's mandate to develop and maintain trail-related facilities serving non-motorized users. DOTD, the awardee, will serve as the primary recipient responsible for project execution and delivery, utilizing formula grant funding mechanisms administered through the FHWA to enhance recreational trail access and infrastructure in Louisiana.
