About this award
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) awarded $333,300 to the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities on June 20, 2025, under the Recreational Trails Program (CFDA 20.219) to fund Phase II of the 35 Mile Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) Riding Park project. This formula grant supports continued construction of recreational trail infrastructure in Juneau, Alaska, specifically the Lower Loop Trail and South Loop Trail components of a comprehensive motorized recreation facility being developed on approximately 565 acres of City and Borough of Juneau land.
Phase II construction activities contribute to the development of a multi-use trail system designed to accommodate diverse riding skill levels and provide motorized recreational opportunities for the Juneau community. The overall project represents an eligible use under the Recreational Trails Program, which authorizes funding for construction of new trails and related facilities for both motorized and nonmotorized recreational uses. Upon completion, the 35 Mile ORV Riding Park will offer a network of loop trails serving Juneau's first dedicated off-road vehicle recreation area.
