About this award

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) received a Formula Grant award of $3.26 million from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) under the Highway Planning and Construction program (CFDA 20.205) on July 25, 2025. The award funds sidewalk and pedestrian infrastructure improvements across multiple locations in the Village of Beverly Hills, Michigan, totaling approximately 3 miles of new and rehabilitated sidewalk facilities. Specific deliverables include construction of new 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalks (4-inch concrete over 4-inch Class II sand base) along the west side of Evergreen Road, the north side of 13 Mile Road, and the south side of 14 Mile Road, with targeted segments extending from Long Bow to Lahser and from Old Stage Road to Evergreen Road.

In addition to base sidewalk construction, the project encompasses Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance improvements, including ADA ramps at applicable intersections and driveways and modifications to existing sidewalk near Groves High School to meet Proposed Right of Way as a Gift (PROWAG) standards. The scope also includes boardwalks on 13 Mile Road where needed, landscape restoration at impacted locations to preserve community aesthetics, and a new midblock pedestrian crossing on Evergreen Road just south of Riverside Drive. As a formula grant distributed through FHWA's statutory allocation mechanisms, this award reflects MDOT's role as the state-administering entity for federal-aid highway programs and supports the state's transportation planning priorities for pedestrian safety and multimodal connectivity improvements.
