About this award

This $2,500,000 Formula Grant award from the Federal Highway Administration (CFDA 20.205 - Highway Planning and Construction) will fund a study to evaluate replacement alternatives for the aging 7th Avenue North bridge structure over the BNSF Railway yard in Havre, Montana. The study, conducted by the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), will assess bridge design elements, alignment alternatives, environmental impacts, right-of-way and utility issues, safety concerns, operational factors, and traffic patterns to determine a preferred set of improvement recommendations. A key component of the study will include public outreach and engagement efforts with residents, stakeholders, and local governments. The end result will be a comprehensive set of project recommendations, including costs and potential funding sources, to guide the eventual replacement of this critical bridge infrastructure. This grant award, dated January 28, 2025, supports MDT's broader efforts to develop, preserve, and improve Montana's transportation network through federal transportation infrastructure funding.
