About this award
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation received a Formula Grant award of $13.4 million from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) under the Highway Planning and Construction program (CFDA 20.205) on May 29, 2025. This award funds comprehensive rehabilitation of critical bridge infrastructure in Philadelphia County carrying Market Street and Walnut Street over the Schuylkill River, Amtrak rail lines, Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway), and CSX rail facilities. The project encompasses bridge structural rehabilitation, roadway resurfacing, signing and striping, retaining wall construction, bulkhead repairs, stone arch repairs, utility installations, street lighting upgrades, and traffic signal enhancements across State Routes 3010 and 0003 between approximately 33rd Street and 22nd Street in the City of Philadelphia.
This Formula Grant represents a statutory allocation under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) administered by FHWA to support highway preservation and improvement on the State's transportation network. As a federally assisted, state-administered program, PennDOT selected this project based on state and local priorities within the FHWA's eligible activities framework. The project will enhance transportation safety, preserve critical regional infrastructure, and improve multimodal connectivity across the Schuylkill River corridor serving local, regional, and freight transportation needs.
