About this award
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) awarded the Idaho Department of Transportation $156,293.63 under the Highway Planning and Construction program (CFDA 20.205) on September 23, 2025, to construct multimodal pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure along the Teton River in Rexburg, Idaho. The project deliverables include a 654-foot asphalt shared-use pathway (10 feet wide, 2.5 inches thick with a 12-foot-wide base) extending along an existing dirt trail, and a new pedestrian bridge spanning approximately 110 feet in length and 10 feet in width constructed of Corten steel. Both the pathway and bridge will be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant, connecting to existing pathway infrastructure on the south side of the river and enhancing regional active transportation connectivity.
The project is scheduled for completion by July 31, 2028, and represents a formula grant allocation under the Federal-aid Highway Program. This infrastructure improvement aligns with the Highway Planning and Construction program's eligibility criteria for pedestrian and bicycle facility development, which represents an exception to standard federal-aid highway project location requirements. The Idaho Department of Transportation, a certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) and experienced federal grant recipient, will serve as the project administrator responsible for all design, construction oversight, and environmental compliance activities required under the program.
