About this award

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) awarded Pennsylvania Department of Transportation a Formula Grant totaling $6,073,750.25 on May 28, 2025, under the Highway Planning and Construction program (CFDA 20.205). This award funds the Route 1 Improvement-North project, a comprehensive corridor improvement initiative in Bucks County that encompasses the reconstruction and widening of State Route 0001 from the Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange northward to the State Route 0001 overpass over State Route 2037/CSX/SEPTA. The project spans approximately 10,900 linear feet across Bensalem and Middletown townships.

The funded project deliverables include reconstruction of three bridges, installation of a sound barrier and three retaining walls, placement of ten sign structures, relocation of a catenary tower, traffic signal installation, and comprehensive drainage and stormwater system improvements. Additionally, the project addresses two major interchanges—the State Route 0001/State Route 2044 and State Route 0001/State Route 2037 interchanges—with associated reconstruction work. These infrastructure improvements are designed to enhance highway capacity, safety, and operations within the Neshaminy and Penndel corridor region, consistent with the FHWA's Highway Planning and Construction program objectives for state-administered transportation infrastructure development.
