About this award
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) awarded $913,532 to the New York Department of Transportation on August 1, 2025, under the Highway Planning and Construction program (CFDA 20.205) to support the replacement of the Bronx River Parkway bridge over the AMTRAK/CSX railroad in Bronx County. The project delivers critical infrastructure improvements including replacement of the existing two-span bridge with a wider single-span structure, reconfiguration of the southbound exit ramp onto East 177th Street through construction of a new single-span bridge, and installation of wider standard lanes and shoulders to enhance safety and mobility. Additionally, the project incorporates new stormwater drainage facilities to address environmental compliance requirements.
This formula grant supports a transportation infrastructure project that advances both safety and mobility objectives within New York State's comprehensive transportation network. The work encompasses bridge rehabilitation and replacement activities on state roadways, which represents a core eligible activity under the Highway Planning and Construction program. The project advances FHWA's statutory mission to assist states in the construction, preservation, and improvement of highways and related transportation infrastructure as authorized under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
