About this award

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) awarded the District of Columbia Department of Public Works a formula grant of $214,899.66 under the Highway Planning and Construction program (CFDA 20.205) on July 7, 2025. This funding supports the Traffic Safety Design project, a five-year district-wide initiative designed to improve traffic safety at high-crash locations throughout Washington, D.C.

Under this award, the District will engage consultants to conduct comprehensive traffic safety investigations and analyses at designated crash locations. The deliverables include data collection, field investigations, data analysis, and the development of evidence-based countermeasure recommendations to mitigate traffic safety risks. These consulting services align with the Highway Planning and Construction program's emphasis on transportation safety enhancements and support the District's efforts to apply data-driven approaches to reducing crashes and improving road safety outcomes across the city's transportation network.
