About this award
This $256,820.65 Formula Grant award from the Federal Highway Administration's Recreational Trails Program (CFDA 20.219) will fund the construction of 2 additional miles of 4-season trail in the Beach Lake Park area of Alaska. The new trail will serve as a winter dog mushing trail and a soft-surface, multi-use trail the rest of the year, creating a 10-mile loop trail network. The grant recipient, the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, is working with the Chugiak Dog Mushers Association on this project to improve recreational trail access and infrastructure in the region. This grant award builds upon a separate project by the Eagle River Chugiak Parks and Recreation department to enhance an existing 8-mile loop trail in the same park. The Recreational Trails Program provides formula grants to states to develop and maintain both motorized and non-motorized recreational trails and related facilities.
