About this award
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration awarded a $250,000 Formula Grant to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) under the Highway Planning and Construction program (CFDA 20.205). The grant will fund the establishment of a shared-use path along Butler Street in the City of Pittsburgh, between 57th Street and One Wild Place. The project aims to provide a dedicated bicycle and pedestrian route in this corridor, which currently lacks an alternate path for bike travel. The shared-use path will be approximately 10 feet wide and separated from vehicular traffic through the use of physical barriers. This grant-funded project will improve transportation safety and connectivity for the local community by enhancing the bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in the area.
Description
- Project description
- The project consists of the establishment of a shared-use path along butler street in the city of pittsburgh, between 57TH street and one wild place. At present, there is no alternate path for bicycle travel through that corridor so bicyclists are forced to use butler street. Furthermore, sidewalks are narrow and in poor condition. This project proposes to establish a shared-use path of approximately 10' width on the north side of butler street, separated from vehicular traffic through that area. The shared use path will either raise a portion of the existing street to sidewalk grade or lower existing sidewalk to roadway grade, or some combination through the corridor, to provide this path (to be determined through the design process). The project will be providing physical barriers between the roadway and shared used path area within its portion of the project area.
