About this award
This $781,272.09 Formula Grant award from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) under the Highway Planning and Construction program (CFDA 20.205) will fund the rehabilitation of the existing prestressed concrete adjacent box beam bridge carrying State Route 3019 over Hazle Creek in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The project scope includes replacing the entire superstructure with new prestressed concrete adjacent box beams and concrete bridge deck, as well as replacing the existing bridge barrier, repairing the abutment wingwalls, and removing debris and sediment from the stream channel. Additional work involves minor roadway approach reconstruction, milling and resurfacing, guiderail replacement, erosion and sediment control measures, temporary traffic control, and other miscellaneous construction. The project will be completed while traffic is detoured, with coordination required between the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (the grant recipient) and Norfolk Southern Railroad, as the bridge is located adjacent to a railroad crossing.
Description
- Project description
- The project consists of rehabilitation of the existing prestressed concrete adjacent box beam bridge carrying SR 3019 traffic over hazle creek with approach roadway improvements. Rehabilitation work includes the replacement of the entire superstructure with new prestressed concrete adjacent box beams and concrete bridge deck, as well as replacement of the existing bridge barrier with PA 3-rail bridge barrier that meets current standards, repairs to the existing abutment wingwall and removal of debris and sediment along the stream channel beneath the bridge. The bridge is located directly adjacent to a norfolk southern railroad crossing so construction will need to be coordinated with norfolk southern, and railroad flagging will be required. Other work includes minor roadway approach full depth reconstruction, milling and resurfacing, guiderail replacement, E & S control measures, temporary traffic control, signing, pavement marking, and other miscellaneous construction work. Construction will be completed while traffic is detoured as indicated on the approved drawings included in the bid package for state route 3019, section 351 luzerne county, hazle township from approximately 0.20 miles south of SR 3030 at segment 0050 offset 0233 (STA.15+00.00) to approximately 1.90 miles north of SR 0093 at segment 0040 offset 2656 (STA. 18+50.00).
