About this award
This federal Formula Grant award of $111,818.07, provided by the Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration under the Highway Planning and Construction program (CFDA 20.205), will fund the installation of pedestrian safety crossing improvements at four locations in Idaho.
The grant supports the installation of Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs) or Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at intersections in Boise, Eagle, Kuna, and Garden City. These priority crossing locations were identified by the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) to address known safety concerns and improve connectivity for pedestrians and bicyclists to important destinations such as grocery stores, parks, schools, and transit. The grant award will enable ACHD to implement these pedestrian safety enhancements, which align with the agency's Livable Streets Design Guide.
Description
- Project description
- Achd staff reviewed a list of agency requested pedestrian crossings projects that are not currently programed in the integrated five-year work plan. Staff focused on projects that solve a known safety concern and improve connectivity for bikes and pedestrians to important destinations. Achd has identified four crossing locations to install either a PHB or rrfb. These four locations have support from either an achd neighborhood plan, and/or a partner agency and the policy support of achd's livable streets design guide. The location of these priority crossings are: • beacon and grant - improves neighborhood access to grocery store and BSU, boise • hill and edgewood - creates a safer pedestrian crossing to guerber park, eagle • linder and ardell - creates a safer pedestrian crossing for students going to school, kuna • alworth and 50TH - creates a safer pedestrian crossing (top 10 priority for city) - garden city
