About this award

This $250,000 Formula Grant award from the Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (CFDA 20.219 Recreational Trails Program) will fund the construction of approximately 1,400 feet of 10-foot-wide concrete multi-use trail through the proposed TREC Park in Effingham County, Illinois. This project represents the third phase of a looped trail system within the 55-acre TREC Park area. The new trail segment will connect to existing concrete trails, providing walkers, runners, mountain bikers, and equestrians access to an integrated 4,000-foot trail network that connects to an additional 5 miles of existing TREC trails in the area. The grant will cover the construction of this ADA-accessible trail segment, which was originally planned as part of a prior RTP-funded project but could not be completed due to rising construction costs. This award will allow the completion of this critical trail infrastructure, expanding recreational opportunities for the local community.

Description

Project description
Trail recreation effingham county - phase VI-C. This project will be the third phase of a looped trail through the 55-acre area of the proposed trec park. This part of the project was originally included in phase VI-B. Trec phase VI-B was funded with RTP grant 20-162. This section of the concrete trail was not able to be constructed due to rapidly increasing construction costs. The bids for phase VI-B came in substantially over the original estimate, and this section of the trail could not be built. This phase of the project (VI-C) will consist of the construction of approximately 1,400 feet of 10-foot-wide concrete trail. This section of trail will be constructed on a corridor previously cleared with RTP grant 19-157. The proposed trail will begin at an existing concrete trail (phase 1-B west). The trail will then extend easterly 1,400 feet through the proposed trec park area. The proposed trail will be ADA accessible. There are 2 parking areas that can be used for the proposed trail. One parking lot at fairview drive and another at kepley road. There are existing ADA accessible concrete trails from both parking areas to the proposed trail. The end result of this grant would be a 1,400-foot trail usable by walkers, runners, mountain bikes, and horses. The trail will be open daily for use. The ultimate result of the trec phase VI project when all phases are completed will be approximately 4,000 feet of concrete trail through the trec park. The trec park trail will connect with approximately 5 miles of existing trec trails in the area between effingham and lake sara.
