About this award
The Louisiana Department of Transportation received a $163,000 Formula Grant award from the Federal Highway Administration on March 3, 2021 under the Recreational Trails Program. The funding will support the construction of 3,020 linear feet of trail as the first phase of Moncus Park in Lafayette, Louisiana. Specifically, Lafayette Central Park, Inc. will engage a contractor to prepare the subbase and surface the trail with asphalt pavement 10 feet wide and include a 3-foot gravel shoulder on one side. The project will also consider maintenance of drainage and installation of utilities and lighting. Upon completion, park staff and volunteers will install benches, signs, and plantings to support recreational trail use at the park. The Recreational Trails Program aims to develop and maintain trails and trail facilities for both motorized and nonmotorized recreational uses.
Description
- Project description
- Lafayette central park, INC. Has engaged the services of a professional contractor to construct the first phase of the park grounds to include the main park entrance from johnston street, other park elements, a 1-mile trial inclusive to the park property and the extension of that trail as proposed in this application. Using construction plans and specifications prepared by a licensed landscape architect, IT is expected that in order to surface approximately 3,020 linear feet of trail, the contractor will be required to prepare a subbase for an asphalt surfaced trail and will accommodate pedestrian traffic only. The pavement will be 10' wide with a 3' gravel sholder on one side (similar design to promenade being constructed now). Considerations will balso be made to account for maintenance of drainage and installation of utilities/lighting. Park staff along with volunteers, will then install benches, signs, plantings.
