About this award

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded $973,114.74 through the Airport Improvement Program (CFDA 20.106) to the Town of Southold on September 11, 2025, for the final construction phase of critical airfield infrastructure improvements at Fishers Island Airport in New York. The project encompasses reconstruction of runway visual guidance systems, rehabilitation of runway lighting systems, and reconstruction of airfield signage and markings across both Runway 12/30 and Runway 7/25. Specifically, the work includes reconstruction of Runway End Identifier Lights (REIL) systems at both thresholds for each runway and rehabilitation of existing runway lighting to extend operational life.

The Fishers Island Ferry District serves as a sub-awardee, receiving funding to rehabilitate Runway 12/30 and Runway 7/25 edge lighting systems and to reconstruct the REIL systems at both runway thresholds at Elizabeth Field Airport. The project is scheduled for completion by September 10, 2029, and represents a continuation of the Town of Southold's sustained infrastructure maintenance commitment at the airport, which has previously received over $5.5 million in FAA grants for runway rehabilitation and safety infrastructure enhancements.
