About this award
The Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service awarded $69,477,938 to the Utah State Board of Education under the National School Lunch Program (CFDA 10.555) on October 1, 2025, for the period October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026. This formula grant funds nutritionally balanced, low-cost or no-cost school lunches for children in Utah public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions, as well as meals for children and adults in approved afterschool programs, school breakfast programs, child and adult day care programs, and special milk programs. Participating school districts and independent schools receive cash subsidies to reimburse meals served to eligible children at free or reduced prices. The Utah State Board of Education, as the state agency administering the program, determines school and institution eligibility, enters written agreements with participating schools and institutions, and oversees compliance with federal meal pattern requirements and nonprofit food service operations.
The Utah State Board of Education passed funds to over 100 sub-recipients including school districts (Nebo, Alpine, Canyons, Jordan, Tooele, Weber, Wasatch, Box Elder, Sevier, Uintah, Rich, Piute, South Sanpete, Daggett, San Juan), charter and public schools, child care providers, Head Start and Early Head Start programs, community action agencies, domestic violence shelters, youth organizations, and specialized service providers across Utah. Sub-recipients deliver school breakfast, lunch, and after-school meals; child and adult day care meals; special milk programs; and related nutrition assistance services. Work is performed throughout Utah.
