About this award
The Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service awarded the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction $440,000 on October 1, 2025, under the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CFDA 10.558), a formula grant supporting reimbursements for nutritious meals and snacks to eligible children and adults in nonresidential day care facilities, afterschool care programs in low-income areas, and emergency shelters. The award runs through September 30, 2026, and is obligated in full at $440,000.
The program operates through a federal-state partnership in which the state administering agency enters into a permanent written agreement with the Food and Nutrition Service and then enters into approved agreements with individual child and adult care institutions. Participating institutions must operate as nonprofit food services available to all eligible children and adults regardless of race, sex, color, national origin, age, or disability. State agencies must establish audit policy for for-profit institutions, approve applications within 30 calendar days, provide hearing procedures for institutional grievances, and require participating institutions to maintain full and accurate records for three years following the end of the relevant fiscal year.
The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction passed through funding to approximately 70 sub-recipients delivering CACFP Community and Institutional Liability (CIL) components. Sub-recipients include child care centers and family child care homes such as Scribbles & Giggles Childcare LLC, Langdon Day Care Center Inc., and Creative Beginnings Day Care Center Inc.; tribal entities including Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians and Sitting Bull College; community action and nonprofit organizations such as Tri Valley Opportunity Council Inc., Community Action Partnership, and Southeastern North Dakota Community Action Agency; school districts including Sargent Central Public School District 6, Park River Area School District 8, and Minot Public School District 1; institutions of higher education including North Dakota State University, Mayville State University, and Cankdeska Cikana Community College; YMCAs and family service organizations; and other meal service and child care providers across North Dakota. Sub-award dates cluster in July 2026, with some earlier sub-awards dated July 13, 2026.
Performance occurs statewide across North Dakota.
