About this award
The Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service awarded $375,141,591.70 to the Indiana Department of Education for the National School Lunch Program (CFDA 10.555) on October 1, 2025, with performance through September 30, 2026, in Indiana.
The award supports provision of nutritionally balanced, low-cost or no-cost lunches to school children through participating public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions across Indiana. School food authorities receive cash subsidies and USDA Foods for each reimbursable meal served. Participating schools must serve lunches meeting federal meal pattern requirements and offer meals at free or reduced price to eligible children. School food authorities may also receive reimbursement for snacks served to children in approved afterschool programs that include educational or enrichment activities.
The Indiana Department of Education, doing business as the Superintendent of Public Instruction, administers the program statewide and serves as the state agency responsible for determining school eligibility, reviewing written applications from school food authorities, and executing federal-state agreements with participating schools and institutions. The department distributes the funding through formula grant allocations to more than one hundred sub-recipients including school corporations, school districts, charter schools, community schools, and nonprofit organizations throughout Indiana. Sub-recipients identified in the award record include South Vermillion School Corporation, Nettle Creek School Corp, Rooted School Inc., Orleans Community Schools, Joshua Academy, Tipton Community School Corporation, and Telamon Corporation, among many others. Sub-awards were allocated on July 31, 2026.
