The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families awarded the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services $25,853,774.66 under the Community Services Block Grant (CFDA 93.569) on October 1, 2025.
CSBG provides assistance to states and local communities through community action agencies and neighborhood-based organizations to reduce poverty, revitalize low-income communities, and empower low-income families and individuals to become fully self-sufficient. Eligible services include assistance securing and retaining employment, attaining education, obtaining adequate housing and living environments, emergency assistance for health services and nutritious food, removal of obstacles to self-sufficiency, increased community participation, and coordination with other social services programs.
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, a state-level pass-through administrator, distributes CSBG funds to an extensive network of sub-recipients including county departments of job and family services, community action agencies, community colleges, nonprofit organizations, and food banks across Ohio. The award runs through September 30, 2027, with performance in Ohio. As a formula grant, allocation to Ohio was determined through statutory distribution methodology rather than competitive application. States receiving CSBG funding must conduct public meetings regarding plans for distributing and using the funds and maintain records sufficient to trace expenditures and ensure lawful spending.
