About this award
The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families awarded the Georgia Department of Human Services $126.569 million on October 1, 2025, under the Social Services Block Grant (CFDA 93.667), a formula grant supporting flexible social service delivery across Georgia through September 30, 2027.
The SSBG enables states to furnish social services tailored to resident needs, with funds directed toward reducing dependency, promoting self-sufficiency, protecting children and adults from neglect and abuse, and supporting individuals unable to care for themselves to remain in their homes or access appropriate institutional arrangements. Georgia's Department of Human Services, through its Financial Services Division doing business as the Division of Aging Services, serves as the recipient and administers pass-through funding to regional commissions and service providers.
Sub-recipients deliver comprehensive services for elderly and disabled persons under the Older Americans Act, including congregate and home-delivered nutrition services, supportive services and senior centers, family caregiver support, preventive health programs, coordinated transportation for elderly and disabled populations, and adult protective services. Regional sub-grantees—including Coastal Regional Commission, Southern Georgia Regional Commission, Heart of Georgia Altamaha Regional Commission, River Valley Regional Commission, Northeast Georgia Regional Commission, Northwest Georgia Regional Commission, Middle Georgia Regional Commission, Three Rivers Regional Commission, Central Savannah River Area Regional Commission, and Atlanta Regional Commission—operate area agencies on aging across multiple planning and service regions. Additional sub-recipients including county governments (Henry County, Cherokee County, Jefferson County, Fulton County), municipalities (City of Palmetto), nonprofit aging-focused organizations (The Legacy Link Inc., Sowega Council On Aging Inc.), and transportation service providers (Verida Inc. doing business as Southeastrans, Quality Living Services Inc.) deliver regionally coordinated transportation and human services to low-income and vulnerable populations across rural, small urban, and large urbanized areas of Georgia.
Performance occurs statewide across Georgia. The award obligates $126.569 million for the two-year period.
