About this award
The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living awarded $151.073 million to the Department of Aging California on October 1, 2025, under the Special Programs for the Aging, Title III, Part B, Grants for Supportive Services and Senior Centers program (CFDA 93.044) for the period October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2027.
The award funds community-based supportive services and senior centers across California, enabling older adults to remain independent in their homes and communities. Services include transportation, in-home support, multipurpose senior centers, and other assistance. The California Department of Aging allocated funds to 35 sub-recipients through sub-awards dated July 1, 2025, and July 1, 2026. Sub-recipients include county governments and their aging/social services departments, area agencies on aging, and nonprofit organizations serving seniors across the state. County of Stanislaus, County of Merced, County of Kern, County of San Diego, County of Alameda, City and County of San Francisco, County of Sonoma, County of Ventura, County of San Joaquin, and County of Marin represent major local government sub-recipients; area agencies on aging serving multi-county regions include PSA 26 Area Agency on Aging, Fresno-Madera Area Agency on Aging, Kings Tulare Area Agency on Aging, and Planning & Service Area 2 Area Agency on Aging. Non-profit sub-recipients include Seniors Council of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties, Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens, Family Service Agency of Santa Barbara County, Long Term Care Ombudsman Services of San Luis Obispo County, and Sourcewise. This is a formula grant under which the Administration on Aging distributes funds to State Agencies on Aging through a statutory formula based on state plans; states then award funds to sub-state organizations according to intrastate funding formulas.
