Western Resources For Independent Living (WRIL) received a $285,972 Formula Grant award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living under the ACL Centers for Independent Living program (CFDA 93.432), effective September 30, 2025, through September 29, 2027. This continuation award supports WRIL's operation of a statewide network of Centers for Independent Living (CILs) across South Dakota, delivering consumer-controlled, community-based services to individuals with significant disabilities.
The funded services include peer counseling, information and referral services, independent living skills training, individual and systems advocacy, and transition assistance from institutional to community-based living environments. WRIL operates collaboratively with the South Dakota Housing Development Authority to provide supplemental support services, including security deposit assistance. These services are designed to enhance independence and productivity of individuals with disabilities and promote their full inclusion and integration into mainstream American society. This award represents part of the federal government's continued investment in maintaining established state CIL networks through formula-allocated funding based on statutory prioritization and population-based allocation methodologies.
