About this award

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services will receive $3.657 million under a Formula Grant award from the US Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service. The funding supports the WIC Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2024.

The WIC program provides supplemental nutritious foods, nutrition education, and referrals to health and social services to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age five who are determined to be at nutritional risk. Specifically, some of the $3.657 million will support breastfeeding peer counselors operating in North Carolina to help deliver the nutrition education and support services that the WIC program provides to its target population.
