About this award

The Delaware Juvenile Justice Advisory Group (JJAG) will receive $485,607 under a Formula Grant award from the Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The funding will support JJAG's efforts under Delaware's Title II formula block grant plan to enhance the state's juvenile justice system and services statewide. Specifically, the award will fund programs focused on mental health services, alternatives to arrest, and delinquency prevention. The programs aim to provide at-risk and system-involved juveniles with early intervention programming while also promoting accountability. The funding period is from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2026. As required under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act's Title II Formula Grants program, the plan will include ongoing compliance tasks to meet the Act's core requirements and measure outcomes through monitoring and performance reporting.

Description

Research in juvenile delinquency demonstrates that effective services take into consideration interconnecting risk mechanisms of family organization, parental supervision, peer relationships, community support, substance abuse, school participation and history of violence and weapons use. Delaware's title II formula block grant plan will enhance the state's juvenile justice system and services available statewide so that juveniles involved in the system and juveniles at-risk of involvement are provided with early delinquency prevention programming, held accountable to the public, to the criminal justice system and to themselves. With the cooperative leadership among the member agencies, plus the ingenuity of the criminal justice council, juvenile justice advisory group (jjag) will select programs representing the jjag three year plan programs areas of interest: mental health services, alternatives to arrest and delinquency prevention. The plan will also include on-going compliance tasks to meet the jjdp act core requirements. Such goals and objectives will be measured through monitoring, committee updates, performance reporting from sub-grantees as well as CJC staff and on-going collaboration between the law enforcement agencies and juvenile justice service providers.
