About this award

The Bureau of Justice Assistance awarded the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs $351,008 on October 1, 2025, under the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment for State Prisoners program (CFDA 16.593) to fund residential substance abuse treatment for incarcerated individuals in Alabama prisons and jails during fiscal year 2025.

ADECA, as the state administering agency, subawards these funds through its Law Enforcement and Traffic Safety Division to the Alabama Department of Corrections for prison-based residential substance abuse treatment programming. A jail-based subrecipient, to be determined at the time of subaward, will receive funds for corresponding treatment services in local jail facilities. The award supports evidence-based residential treatment during incarceration, preparation for community reintegration, and community-based aftercare services to reduce recidivism among individuals with substance use disorder or co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions.

Period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2029. Place of performance is Montgomery, Alabama.

Description

As the state administering agency of bureau of justice assistance (BJA) RSAT funds, ADECA's law enforcement and traffic safety division will subaward these funds for residential substance abuse treatment programs to its designated subgrantee, the alabama department of corrections (ADOC), and a subrecipient to be determined for jail-based programming. ADECA's goal is to provide subaward funds to ADOC and a local unit of government to assist in enhancing their capability of providing residential substance use treatment for incarcerated inmates in prisons and jails.
