The U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) awarded a $166,716.00 Formula Grant to the Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) under the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) for State Prisoners Program (CFDA 16.593). The grant supports WDOC's in-prison substance use disorder (SUD) treatment programs at the Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp by funding three peer specialist positions. The peer specialists will assist inmates by providing resources, advocating for their needs, and leading recovery dialogues and self-help sessions. The project aims to increase access to SUD treatment, improve treatment completion rates, and reduce recidivism among WDOC inmates with identified SUD needs. WDOC plans to enter a sub-agreement with Gateway Foundations, Inc. to deliver the direct treatment services funded by this 4-year grant, which started on October 1, 2024.
