The Michigan Department of State Police (MSP), also known as the Michigan State Police, has been awarded a $161,195 formula grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance to support the PREA Program: Strategic Support for PREA Implementation (CFDA #16.735). This 2-year grant, effective October 1, 2023, will fund MSP's efforts to achieve compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards and reduce sexual abuse in confinement facilities across Michigan. Key activities to be supported include staff training, inmate education, policy development, investigations, audits, and data collection related to PREA implementation. MSP plans to work with local law enforcement agencies, universities, and community organizations as sub-recipients to deliver these services statewide.
