About this award

The Idaho State Police Planning, Grants, and Research (PGR) division is awarded a $433,000 Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) for State Prisoners Formula Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance. This 4-year grant, effective October 1, 2023, will fund the creation and enhancement of jail-based substance abuse treatment programs in Idaho, with a focus on the Twin Falls County Adult Detention Facility.

The grant will support an addictions/mental health counselor and two case managers to provide substance use disorder treatment, mental health care, and comprehensive reentry services for incarcerated individuals at the Twin Falls facility. Key activities include evidence-based treatment, medication-assisted therapy, vocational training, and coordination of post-release community-based services to facilitate successful reintegration and long-term recovery. This aligns with the RSAT program's objectives to increase access to treatment and reduce substance abuse and recidivism among justice-involved populations.

Description

The idaho state police planning, grants, and research (PGR) is applying for the FY 2023 residential substance abuse treatment grant to create or enhance jail-based programs and to support the under-funded jail or prison-based residential substance abuse treatment programs in idaho. The current rsat subgrantee that may apply for continued funding is the twin falls county adult detention facility. To date, no other entities throughout the state have been identified as being able to meet the required rsat elements. Twin falls county adult detention facility seeks to continue improving access to care for drug dependent or addicted offenders (oftentimes with CO-occurring mental illness) incarcerated at the adult detention facility in twin falls, idaho. Collaborating with criminal justice organizations and the community, rsat funds are used to employ an addictions/mental health counselor and two case managers. The counselor provides substance use disorder treatment and mental health care assistance to inmates wishing to lead a sober and law-abiding lifestyle. The case managers provide inmate support in obtaining services in their community prior to and at the time of release; such services include substance use treatment, aftercare, mental health treatment, medical care, housing, employment, sober community supports, education and job training, and links to other needed services that allow clients continued recovery and resiliency.
