About this award

The U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance awarded a $1,206,470 Formula Grant under the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) for State Prisoners Program to the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC) operating as Arizona Corrections Support. The grant aims to break the cycle of substance abuse and anti-social behavior among inmates and prepare them for successful community re-entry. Funded programs will implement evidence-based residential, jail-based, aftercare, and post-release treatment services focused on developing inmates' cognitive, behavioral, social, and vocational skills. The award requires strong collaborative partnerships between ACJC and agencies such as the Arizona Department of Corrections, Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections, Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, and Chicanos Por La Causa to provide comprehensive substance abuse treatment and reintegration support. The 4-year grant, effective October 1, 2023, will enhance the state's capability to deliver residential substance abuse treatment and reduce recidivism rates among the justice-involved population.
