About this award

The New Hampshire Department of Justice received a $203,189 Formula Grant award from the Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Assistance under the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment for State Prisoners (RSAT) program. The NH DOJ will use the funding to expand evidence-based substance use disorder treatment services in four county jails and state correctional facilities through September 2026. Specifically, the NH DOJ will release a competitive RFP to provide comprehensive, client-centered substance abuse treatment and aftercare in the ten county jails and NH Department of Corrections. Funded programs will be required to conduct needs assessments, cognitive treatment, gender-specific programming, counseling, drug testing, and referrals for medical assisted treatment and aftercare services for individuals with substance use disorders.

Description

Currently the NH DOJ has active rsat funding subgrant programming in four of the state's ten county jails along with the NH department of corrections. The department of corrections includes three prisons, transitional work centers, and halfway houses. Programming consists of evidence-based cognitive treatment, gender-specific treatment, and individual and group counseling in the correctional settings. In conjunction with these programs, staff administers conduct risk and needs assessments, random drug testing, and submit referrals for aftercare services. Upon receiving the anticipated rsat award, the NH DOJ will release a competitive request for proposals (RFP) that will be open for all ten county jails and the NH department of corrections. IT will require that subgrantees provide comprehensive, holistic, client-centered aftercare, and to closely monitor those individuals with substance use disorders. Ensure random and frequent drug testing for participants while they participate in evidence-based treatment practices, both behind the wall and while in aftercare programming, which includes the availability of medical assistant treatment (mat).
