Description
This agreement provides funding to the state of nevada to continue enhancing the existing state monitoring program and to establish a nationwide statistical survey program in an effort to begin answering broader water quality questions. The environmental benefits of this program include preventing degradation of unimpaired waterbodies and reducing the number of impaired waterbodies in the state. Activities include implementing the monitoring strategy by conducting state scale and reference wadeable stream statistical surveys, organic compound monitoring and data analysis and waterbody assessments using predictive models, implementing the nevada bioassessment program and monitoring strategy. This agreement also funds and supports the state of nevada's participation in EPA's national aquatic resource survey, specifically, the national wetland condition assessment (NWCA). This assistance agreement provide full federal funding in the amount of $370,025. Preaward costs are approved back to 7/1/2025. The maintenance of effort (MOE) for this agreement will be provided for under the 106 grant I-97933726. See terms and conditions. Activities:under this grant, bwqp will continue chemical, physical and biological monitoring at probabilistic, targeted and reference sites; expand monitoring for organic compounds; provide for laboratory analyses of water and biological samples; ensure robust data management through the bwqp water quality databases. The bwqp is currently expanding the capacity of the current water quality assessment reporting tool (WART) application to include bioassessment taxonomic and physical habitat data. Monitoring initiative grant funds will also support continued development of predictive models to assess the condition of the state's waters and to support development of biological criteria. Tasks include: the state-scale statistical survey, reference and targeted streams survey, monitoring for organic compounds, comparative waterbody condition assessment, laboratory analysis; database entry and management, harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring program, training and conferences. Subrecipient:no subawards are included in this assistance agreement.outcomes:- provide chemical, physical habitat and biological data and information for wadeable stream and rivers throughout nevada. Collaborate and coordinate efforts with the bwqp standards, monitoring, tmdl and nonpoint source pollution management programs for routine assessments, expanded surveys and special investigative projects. - develop stream condition indexes and biological water quality indicators using predictive models such as biological condition gradient, observed over expected (O/E) and/or multimetric index (MMI) values. - conduct investigations on streams and rivers of concern, identified by the bwqp's 303(D)/305(B) integrated report and/or interested parties, to evaluate if WQS and beneficial uses are being met and to determine if ecological integrity indices confirm or refute areas of concern. - support national efforts led by EPA to broadly assess the nation's water resources. - ensure high data quality through the implementation of appropriate quality control procedures. - effectively manage data and provide to EPA, other agencies and the public. The anticipated deliverables include: provide chemical, physical habitat and biological data and information for wadeable stream and rivers throughout nevada. - conduct investigations on streams and rivers of concern, identifie
