THE FOCUS OF THIS PROJECT IT TO PRESERVE 200 PHOTOGRAPH ALBUMS AND SCRAPBOOKS IN YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARKS ARCHIVES. THE PROJECT WILL IMPLEMENT THE TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS MADE BY A CONSERVATOR DURING A 2005 PHOTOGRAPH COLLECTION CONDITION SURVEY. WHILE OF HIGH USE, PHOTOGRAPH ALBUMS AND SCRAPBOOKS ARE ESPECIALLY FRAGILE. THE MIX OF MATERIAL TYPES, ADHESIVES, OFTEN POOR-QUALITY ACIDIC PAPERS, AND BINDING TECHNIQUES MEANS THAT THE ALBUMS AND SCRAPBOOKS WILL CONTINUE TO DETERIORATE OVER TIME HIGH USE WILL ONLY HASTEN THAT DETERIORATION. THE TREATMENTS WILL STABILIZE THE OBJECTS BEING ADDRESSED IN THIS PROJECT AND WILL MINIMIZE FUTURE DAMAGE AND DETERIORATION THROUGH STABILIZATION. THE PHOTOGRAPH ALBUMS AND SCRAPBOOKS WILL BE REMOVED FROM NON-ARCHIVAL CONDITIONS INTO STORAGE CONTAINERS MEETING ARCHIVAL STANDARDS AND CONDITIONS. BENEFICIARIES INCLUDE STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS, FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED INDIAN TRIBAL GOVERNMENTS, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, EDUCATIONAL OR SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTIONS,ASSOCIATIONS, INDIVIDUALS.
