Description
The natural resource stewardship program is the principle means through which the national park service (NPS) evaluates and improves the health of watersheds, landscapes, and marine and coastal resources, sustains biological communities on the lands and waters in parks, and actively endeavors to improve the resiliency of these natural resources and adapt them to the effects of climate change. To carry out and further this stewardship responsibility, NPS implements programs that encompass a broad range of research, operational, and educational activities by utilizing park personnel and contractor support or cooperative agreements. This project aims to assess bird populations within the park, providing managers with essential knowledge about the status of bird species and communities. By understanding these populations, park projectssuch as fire fuel clearance, trail maintenance, and facility upgradescan proceed more efficiently with fewer compliance requirements related to bird nesting and sensitive populations, minimizing potential delays or interruptions to necessary work. A key benefit of this project is the utilization of local volunteers, which enhances cost-effectiveness by reducing the need for additional federal staff and resources while providing recreational opportunities and fostering community engagement in conservation efforts.beneficiaries include the general public.
