About this award
The National Park Service (NPS) awarded a $460,980 Cooperative Agreement to Save The Redwoods League under the Natural Resource Stewardship program (CFDA 15.944) to develop reforestation capacity for giant sequoia restoration across the Sierra Nevada region. The project, effective August 1, 2025, through December 31, 2029, will establish native plant nurseries in Southern Sierra Nevada tribal communities by providing technical support, training opportunities, and direct funding to enhance conifer production capacity. The resulting sequoia seedlings will support post-fire restoration efforts for Sequoia Kings Canyon and Yosemite National Parks.
The Natural Resource Stewardship program serves as the primary mechanism through which the NPS evaluates and improves the health of watersheds, landscapes, and natural resources while building ecosystem resilience to climate change. This award exemplifies the program's emphasis on collaborative capacity building within tribal communities and native plant restoration, with deliverables including operational infrastructure development and educational programming that will benefit the general public through enhanced national park resource management and ecosystem health.
Description
15.944 natural resource stewardshipsam.GOV link: click here for the SAM.GOV assistance listingtemplate: the natural resource stewardship program is the principle means through which the national park service (NPS) evaluates and improves the health of watersheds, landscapes, and marine and coastal resources, sustains biological communities on the lands and waters in parks, and actively endeavors to improve the resiliency of these natural resources and adapt them to the effects of climate change. To carry out and further this stewardship responsibility, NPS implements programs that encompass a broad range of research, operational, and educational activities by utilizing park personnel and contractor support or cooperative agreements. Project will develop the reforestation pipeline necessary for the restoration of the giant sequoia across its range. The project seeks to support the development of conifer production capacity in southern sierra nevada tribal communities by providing technical support, training opportunities, and direct funding to develop native plant nurseries in the southern sierra. This capacity will increase availability of sequoia seedlings needed for post-fire restoration for sequoia kings canyon and yosemite national parks. Beneficiaries include the general public.
