TO MAINTAIN A COMPREHENSIVE NETWORK COOPERATIVE STUDY UNITS AS WILL PROVIDE FULL GEOGRAPHIC AND TOPICAL COVERAGE FOR RESEARCH, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE RESOURCES CONTAINED IN UNITS OF THE NATIONAL PARK SYSTEM AND THEIR LARGER REGIONS.THIS RESEARCH PROJECT WILL COLLECT FIELD DATA TO ANALYZE THE EFFECTS OF A FUEL REDUCTION AND FOREST RESTORATION PROJECT ON SMALL MAMMALS IN LASSEN VOLCANIC NATIONAL PARK (LAVO). THE RESEARCH HAS IMPORTANT FOREST RESILIENCE IMPLICATIONS AND WILL INFORM FUTURE MANAGEMENT OF FORESTED HABITAT TO BENEFIT MULTIPLE SPECIES. THE GOAL OF THIS STUDY IS TO ADDRESS A KEY KNOWLEDGE GAP IDENTIFIED BY LAVO RESOURCE AND FIRE STAFF FOLLOWING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PHASE I OF THE NORTHWEST GATEWAY FOREST RESTORATION PROJECT (NWG). THESE DATA ARE CRITICAL IN GUIDING THE MANAGEMENT OF FOREST RESOURCES AND ENSURING THAT IMPORTANT CARNIVORES STILL HAVE ADEQUATE PREY-BASES.BENEFICIARIES INCLUDE STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS, FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED INDIAN TRIBAL GOVERNMENTS, PUBLIC PRIVATE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, NONPROFIT INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION, AND INDIVIDUALS (INCLUDING MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC).
