TO MAINTAIN A COMPREHENSIVE NETWORK COOPERATIVE STUDY UNITS AS WILL PROVIDE FULL GEOGRAPHIC AND TOPICAL COVERAGE FOR RESEARCH, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE RESOURCES CONTAINED IN UNITS OF THE NATIONAL PARK SYSTEM AND THEIR LARGER REGIONS.THIS PROJECT WILL NOMINATE AT LEAST ONE PROPERTY LOCATED WITHIN INTERIOR REGIONS 9 OR 10 THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH MINING OR TRANSPORTATION AND POSSESS EXCEPTIONAL VALUE COMMEMORATING OR ILLUSTRATING THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES (54 USC 320102) AS A NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK(S) OR WILL UPDATE EXISTING NHL NOMINATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH MINING OR TRANSPORTATION THAT DO NOT MEET CURRENT STANDARDS. THE BUCK ROCK TUNNEL WHICH ILLUSTRATES RAILROAD CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY OR THE EARLY MINING TOWN OF JACKSONVILLE IN SOUTHERN OREGON ARE POTENTIAL SITESBENEFICIARIES INCLUDE STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS, FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED INDIAN TRIBAL GOVERNMENTS, PUBLIC PRIVATE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, NONPROFIT INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION, AND INDIVIDUALS (INCLUDING MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC).
