THE NATURAL RESOURCE STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM IS THE PRINCIPLE MEANS THROUGH WHICH THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE (NPS) EVALUATES AND IMPROVES THE HEALTH OF WATERSHEDS, LANDSCAPES, AND MARINE AND COASTAL RESOURCES, SUSTAINS BIOLOGICAL COMMUNITIES ON THE LANDS AND WATERS IN PARKS, AND ACTIVELY ENDEAVORS TO IMPROVE THE RESILIENCY OF THESE NATURAL RESOURCES AND ADAPT THEM TO THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE. TO CARRY OUT AND FURTHER THIS STEWARDSHIP RESPONSIBILITY, NPS IMPLEMENTS PROGRAMS THAT ENCOMPASS A BROAD RANGE OF RESEARCH, OPERATIONAL, AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES BY UTILIZING PARK PERSONNEL AND CONTRACTOR SUPPORT OR COOPERATIVE AGREEMENTS. MANAGEMENT ACTIONS ARE NEEDED ON THESE LANDS TO IMPROVE HABITAT FOR FEDERALLY LISTED SPECIES SUCH AS HICKMANS POTENTILLA, MISSION BLUE BUTTERFLY, SAN BRUNO ELFIN BUTTERFLY, CALIFORNIA RED LEGGED FROG, AND SAN FRANCISCO GARTER SNAKE. PROJECT ACTIONS WILL REDUCE FIRE FUELS AND CONTROL INVASIVE PLANTS ALONG THE PARKS WILDLAND-URBAN INTERFACE AND OPEN SPACES. COLLABORATIVE WORK TO PROMOTE FIRE RESILIENT LANDSCAPES WILL REDUCE THE THREATS THAT CATASTROPHIC WILDFIRES POSE TO HUMAN HEALTH AND SAFETY, INFRASTRUCTURE, AND NATURAL HABITATS. GGNPC WILL COLLABORATE WITH THE GOLDEN GATE SAN MATEO BIOLOGIST AND OTHER NATURAL RESOURCES STAFF TO PLAN AND IMPLEMENT PROJECTS ON PARK LANDS IN SAN MATEO COUNTY. BENEFICIARIES INCLUDE THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
