Description

This project is a significant renovation of the historic carriage roads at worlds end to improve stormwater management that will increase stormwater capacity and reduce erosion and damage to the road in future heavy rainfall events and increase tree health and aesthetics along this historic tree-lined carriage road used for recreation. The NPS is working with the trustees for reservations (the landowner) at worlds end, a trustees-owned park within the boston harbor islands national and state park. NPS REC fee 20% funds will allow for improvements to drainage infrastructure, including pipes and swales, RE-surfacing a portion of the road surfaces to improve tread and stormwater flow to swales, removal of dead and declining trees and vegetation restoration, including installation of replacement trees throughout carriage road. This will result in carriage roads resilient to anticipated climate-change impacts and increase aesthetics for recreational users.
