The Salcha-Delta Soil and Water Conservation District (Salcha-Delta SWCD) was awarded a $174,410.18 Cooperative Agreement by the National Park Service (CFDA 15.945 - Cooperative Research and Training Programs - Resources of the National Park System) to deliver a comprehensive project assisting in the creation, promotion, facilitation, and improvement of the public's understanding of natural, cultural, historic, recreational, and other aspects of areas such as ecological conservation areas and state and local parks in Alaska. This 5-year project (10/1/2024 - 9/30/2029) will engage recipients, partners, and communities in shared environmental stewardship, participation in historic preservation programs and activities, and develop information about conservation issues within the district. The project will also facilitate direct communication with landowners, schools, libraries, communities, villages, tribal governments, and other cooperators to promote the conservation of soil, water, environment, agriculture, and other natural resources. The project includes a youth and community element, such as involving student interns and local/tribal community members, to promote public purposes like education, job training, responsible citizenship, community involvement, and appreciation for natural and cultural resources.
