THE NATIONAL TRAILS SYSTEM OBJECTIVES PRESERVE, PROTECT, AND DEVELOP THE COMPONENTS OF THE NATIONAL TRAILS SYSTEM, WITH A STRONG EMPHASIS ON VOLUNTEER INVOLVEMENT THROUGH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AGREEMENTS TO OPERATE, DEVELOP, AND MAINTAIN ANY PORTION OF SUCH A TRAIL EITHER WITHIN OR OUTSIDE A FEDERALLY ADMINISTERED AREA. THE GOAL OF THIS AGREEMENT IS TO CONDUCT RESEARCH RELATED TO INDIGENOUS SPACES AND USE OF THE LANDSCAPE TO EXPAND KNOWLEDGE OF HOW THE VILLAGE OF WEROWOCOMOCO FIT INTO BROADER NATIVE LANDSCAPES. THE INFORMATION IDENTIFIED IN THIS PROJECT WILL BE USED TO ENHANCE PUBLIC EDUCATION AND INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMMING AT VISITOR CONTACT STATIONS ALONG THE TRAIL.
