Description
This program supports projects that further the mission of the national park service and efforts in natural and cultural resource conservation, protection, and environmental sustainability that are not covered under other specific financial assistance programs. Indiana dunes tourism, indiana dunes national park, pokagon band of potawatomi, and miami tribe of oklahoma are all working together to develop the indiana dunes indigenous cultural trail. The trail will begin on indiana dunestourism property and transition to indiana dunes national park property. The transition area will need welcome information and educational components. This funding will be to develop interpretative gateway structures and educational signage such as wayside signage, interactive exhibits, displays, information panels, and art installations. IT will also support the development of interpretive signage and displays along the indiana dunes indigenous cultural trail within the national park portion of the trail. Funding will provide an opportunity for visitors to have a thorough introduction to the miami and potawatomi history and culture and the connection of those cultures to the indiana dunes area. By providing an overview as visitors enter the national park portion of the trail we provide a framework for the interpretive exhibits along that portion of the trail. Beneficiaries include profit organizations, public nonprofit institutions organizations, private nonprofit institutions organizations, non-federal government entities, industry and public decision makers, research scientists, engineers, and the general public.
