PURPOSE OF AWARD (SUMMARY OF THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT): THE OVERALL GOAL OF THIS COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT IS TO ADVANCE, DEVELOP, PROTECT, AND MAINTAIN THE NORTH COUNTRY NATIONAL SCENIC TRAIL (NOCO). THIS ACHIEVED THROUGH COOPERATIVE PLANNING BY THE NPS AND NORTH COUNTRY TRAIL ASSOCIATION (NCTA) THE RECRUITMENT, TRAINING, AND COORDINATION OF VOLUNTEERS ACROSS THE LENGTH OF THE TRAIL. NCTA COORDINATES THE VOLUNTEER EFFORT ALONG THE OVER 4800 MILE LENGTH OF THE TRAIL THROUGH A NETWORK OF CHAPTERS AND LOCAL PARTNERS. NCTA ALSO COORDINATES THE NATIONAL MARKETING AND OUTREACH EFFORTS TO GROW AWARENESS OF THE NOCO AND CREATE A SENSE OF COMMUNITY AND COMMON PURPOSE. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS AGREEMENT IS TO PARTIALLY SUPPORT NCTA STAFF WHICH SUPPORT AND COORDINATE THE WORK OF THE TRAIL VOLUNTEERS IN THE PROTECTION, BUILDING, MAINTENANCE, DEVELOPMENT, AND PROMOTION OF NOCO.SUMMARY OF PROJECT SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES: SECURE PRIVATE SECTOR FUNDING AND OTHER RESOURCES NEEDED FOR TRAIL DEVELOPMENT, PROTECTION, AND PROMOTION. IDENTIFY AND INFORM THE NPS OF TRAIL, VOLUNTEER AND ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS AND EMERGING OPPORTUNITIES TO ENSURE THE TIMELY AND EFFECTIVE DEVELOPMENT, MAINTENANCE, PROTECTION AND PROMOTION OF THE TRAIL. STRENGTHEN MEMBERSHIP/VOLUNTEERS UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF NOCO. PARTICIPATE WITH THE NPS AND OTHER COOPERATING INTERESTS TO PREPARE LONG-RANGE PLANS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND PROTECTION OF NOCO.
