Description

Activities
This project will facilitate communication and collaboration between stakeholders in a chosen geographical region (one for gtfs and one for gbfs data). These regions will work as an ecosystem in which mobilitydata will address data quality by:- facilitating collaboration among stakeholders in the chosen ecosystem- identifying opportunities to improve traveler experience through data- providing resources to correct the existing issues and improve the quality of the data- identifying different versions of datasets compare and centralize versions- improving the data quality tools and resources so that stakeholders can rely on them long term
Expected outcomes
The project intends to prove that using community-driven open source tools and having a central place to discover sources validate them and collaborate on improving data leads to improved data quality and allows producers and consumers to collaborate more efficiently. The long-term outcome of the EMI project is that when an individual data consumer contacts a data producer to flag an issue with a dataset automatic validation in the data catalog would simultaneously alert all producers and consumers that are impacted by the issue enabling greater access to accurate and timely transit data for all kinds of applications.
Intended beneficiaries
Mobilitydata will apply data quality tools to the datasets supporting all data producers - big and small - to improve their data quality by providing tools and resources tailored to their needs. Data consumers will also have equal access to high quality data ensuring that services focused on specific travel populations or types of trips are given the same level of support as more general trip planners. Individuals from environmental justice populations make up a disproportionate share of transit riders; they will disproportionately benefit from improvements to traveler information particularly from under-resourced transit operators.
