Description
The purpose of the nebraska childhood lead poisoning prevention program (neclppp) is to prevent lead poisoning among children in nebraska by ensuring blood lead testing and reporting, enhancing blood lead surveillance, and improving linkages of lead-exposed children to services. Neclppp will plan, develop, implement, and evaluate strategies and activities for primary and secondary prevention to achieve the performance outcomes. Neclppp will maintain an advisory committee to assist in providing testing and prevention guidance for public health and health care communities. Neclppp will strengthen blood lead testing to utilize data to update and maintain nebraska's blood lead testing plan, which will result in improved blood lead testing rates for children at risk for lead exposure. Neclppp will strengthen blood lead surveillance by continuing the operation of a statewide blood lead surveillance system and improving data quality and completeness. Neclppp will partner with other agencies to facilitate data sharing agreements focused on improving data interoperability. Routine surveillance data analyses will be conducted, which will result in the increased identification of high-risk populations and trends. Neclppp will identify, refer, and monitor children with elevated blood lead levels, which will result in improved rates of children with elevated blood lead levels linked to recommended services. We will continue to partner with 18 local public health departments across nebraska. Each local public health department will provide case investigations and follow-up, service coordination, and referrals of children to medical, environmental, and social services. Timeliness of follow-up activities will be tracked through nebraska's data surveillance system and reviewed to ensure quality and efficacy. Neclppp has many partners committed to preventin g childhood lead poisoning, and by strengthening these partnerships, stakeholders will continue activities beyond this project period at the local, regional, and statewide levels.
