The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) was awarded a $1,339,555 Cooperative Agreement for Emergency Response: Public Health Crisis Response (CFDA 93.354) from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This funding will allow PDPH to enhance its emergency response capabilities to address public health emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, that overwhelm jurisdictional resources. Specifically, the Cooperative Agreement will enable PDPH to hire additional personnel to conduct response-specific functions, procure critical supplies like personal protective equipment (PPE), and leverage existing contracts to obtain clinical staff and biohazard disposal services. The goal is to prioritize public health services, rapidly activate emergency operations, implement effective intervention and control measures, and continuously improve response efforts based on real-time feedback. This award supports PDPH's efforts to address racial and ethnic disparities observed during the COVID-19 crisis and strengthen the city's overall preparedness and resilience to future public health emergencies.
